The magic of immersive theatre at Le Bon Marché

The magic of immersive theatre at Le Bon Marché

Published on In Paris

The Bon Marché department store on the Rue de Sèvres has occupied a special place in the hearts of Parisians since the middle of the 19th century. For 170 years, it has been inventing and reinventing the concept of the Grand Magasin, creating fashion and design trends, infusing the Parisian spirit into each of its products, and maintaining a refined and elegant tradition. This autumn, Le Bon Marché invites you to get to the heart of this story with a simply unique immersive theatre experience...

Le Bon Marché and Au Bonheur des Dames

As both a commercial and a social phenomenon of the 19th century, the Bon Marché department store inspired the writer, Emile Zola. One of his most famous novels was inspired by it. Au Bonheur des Dames (The Ladies’ Paradise) takes place in a department store which the author made no secret of being a thinly disguised Le Bon Marché. For its 170thanniversary, the brand wanted to pay tribute to the author and his work by transporting its customers back in time. Thus was born this immersive theatre experience.

Immerse yourself in history

In the evening, when the department store lowers its iron curtain, another kind of curtain rises, that of the theatre. An entire floor comes to life, imbued with the spirit of the 19th century. You can walk around and interact with the professional actors performing the play. As store activity heats up, the unthinkable happens and you are invited to solve the mystery. A bewitching and exhilarating experience.

Every evening, Le Bon Marché invites you to play in its immersive theatre and enter the world of Zola. This fun, aesthetically pleasing and magical experience allows you to discover all the secrets of this legendary hub of Parisian shopping. A 20-minute walk from the Hôtel des Mines!
